Brown leucorrhea after menstruation may be related to ovulatory bleeding, delayed endometrial shedding, gynecological inflammation, cervical lesions or endocrine disorders. Brown leucorrhea is usually caused by old blood mixed with vaginal secretions. The specific cause needs to be determined based on the accompanying symptoms.

    1. Bleeding during ovulation

A small amount of brown discharge may appear 7-10 days after menstruation, which is related to the slight peeling of the endometrium caused by fluctuations in estrogen during ovulation. It usually lasts for 2-3 days and stops on its own without any special smell or itching. It is recommended to keep the vulva clean, avoid strenuous exercise, and observe changes in bleeding volume. If it occurs frequently or is accompanied by abdominal pain, insufficiency of the corpus luteum needs to be investigated.

    2. Delayed endometrial shedding

When menstruation is not completely discharged, residual menstrual blood is oxidized in the uterine cavity to form brown secretions and is discharged. It is common in patients with uterine retroflexion or intrauterine adhesions, and may be accompanied by a mild falling sensation. Blood circulation can be promoted by applying hot compress to the abdomen. If necessary, the doctor may recommend using motherwort granules, Shaofu Zhuyu capsules and other Chinese patent medicines for conditioning.

    3. Gynecological inflammation

Chronic endometritis or pelvic inflammatory disease may cause postmenstrual brown discharge, often accompanied by lower abdominal pain, lumbosacral soreness, or odorous discharge. Inflammation caused by pathogenic infection needs to be diagnosed through routine examination of leucorrhea. The doctor may prescribe drugs such as Gynecological Qianjin Capsules, Metronidazole Vaginal Effervescent Tablets or Levofloxacin Hydrochloride Tablets for anti-infective treatment.

    4. Cervical lesions

Diseases such as cervical columnar epithelial migration, cervical polyps, or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia may cause contact bleeding, which may appear as brown leucorrhea after blood oxidation. It is recommended to conduct cervical TCT and HPV screening. After diagnosis, Baofukang interferon suppository and other drug treatments can be used. If necessary, cervical LEEP surgery is required.

    5. Endocrine disorders

Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, luteal insufficiency, or thyroid dysfunction can disrupt hormone levels and cause irregular bleeding between periods. It may be accompanied by symptoms such as changes in the menstrual cycle, acne, or increased body hair. The diagnosis needs to be confirmed through six sex hormone tests. The doctor may recommend drugs such as dydrogesterone tablets and estradiol valerate tablets to regulate the cycle.

It is recommended to wash the vulva with warm water every day and change pure cotton underwear to avoid local moisture caused by using panty liners. Observe changes in the color and texture of the secretions. If the brown leucorrhea lasts for more than 1 week or is accompanied by itching, odor, abdominal pain and other symptoms, a gynecological examination should be carried out in time. During this period, bathing and sexual intercourse are prohibited, and increasing the intake of vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C in the diet will help enhance the repair ability of the mucous membrane.
