The answer is really not universal. It can only be said that a small number of mild cases of tinea corporis can indeed subside on their own by improving immunity. But in most cases, improving immunity alone cannot completely cure tinea corporis, and may even make it more serious.
When I was working as a helper in a dermatology clinic, I met a young man who had just entered college. During military training, his trouser legs were so tight that he had a light red ringworm the size of a fingernail on his calf. I was very regular, and I didn't indulge in spicy food or alcohol. I came back for a check-up almost a month later, and the ringworm was completely gone. No hyphae were found during the fungal microscopy. This is a typical fungus with shallow colonization and small infection range. The autoimmunity is up, and the local fungus is directly removed.
But this type is really in the minority, and more of them are patients who stubbornly refuse to take medicine, and only rely on vitamin supplements and running exercises to improve their immunity, but instead make the ringworm worse and worse. Last month, an aunt came to see a doctor. She had three large ring-shaped ringworms on her waist and abdomen. It was so itchy that she couldn't sleep all night. She said that she had heard on the Internet that boosting immunity would improve her immunity. She drank protein powder at home for two months and ran for an hour every morning. As a result, the ringworm spread from the size of a coin to half of her waist. I applied medicine for a long time, and finally had to take oral antifungal medicine to suppress it.
In fact, to put it bluntly, tinea corporis is essentially a skin disease caused by dermatophytes. You treat your skin as a piece of ground, and the fungi are the weeds that have entered. If a small sprout has just sprouted, and your soil has sufficient fertility (strong immunity), you may be able to squeeze the weeds to death by relying on your own ecology. But if the weeds have grown into a large area and their roots have penetrated deep into the soil, what is the use of just fertilizing the soil? You must first pull out the weeds, spray herbicides (antifungals), and then adjust the soil fertility to prevent weeds from growing later.
There are indeed different opinions in the academic circles. Some studies have shown that as long as your own cellular immunity is strong enough, even moderately infected tinea corporis can clear itself within 4-8 weeks. However, in clinical practice, few doctors will recommend that you rely solely on immunity. After all, dermatophytes are not weakly contagious. During the time you wait for your immunity to slowly take effect, you may have infected your hands, back, or even the elderly and children at home. There is no need to suffer this sin.
If you accidentally get tinea corporis, if it is only as big as a fingernail, has not spread, and the itching is very mild, you can first adjust your schedule to avoid staying up late, eat less sweet and spicy food, keep the affected area dry, and observe it for a week to ten days. If it does not get better or even becomes larger and more itchy, don't hesitate and apply antifungal ointment regularly, it will be more effective than trying to improve your immunity.
